What DaRon Bland is doing is pretty incredible

It's hard to find words for what Cowboys second-year cornerback DaRon Bland is doing. It's one thing that he allows the third-lowest catch percentage in the NFL (among CBs who play at least 250 snaps), you could come up with some pretty good stats, but there is one thing that not only this year, but throughout history also stands out among all the players. Bland got his fifth pick-six of the year against the Commanders, which is the most ever!

Until now, he was tied with Eric Allen (1993), Ken Houston (1971) and Jim Kearney (1972) with four, but now he has become the sole leader in this category. It is worth drawing attention to the fact that Allen's record setting was already 30 years ago, so for three decades no one was able to do what Bland did in 10 games in one season! And now he has added a shovel, in fact, he has 6 more matches to increase the record.

By the way, Bland became the first quarterback since 2014 (JJ Watt) to score five touchdowns (this includes everything, not just interception returns). No one has ever been able to do six, so the young CB can do that in December.

Another interesting fact is that this season only 21 players have as many touchdowns as the Cowboys cornerbacks, and if we narrow it down to TDs caught, only 13, which is quite incredible. As is the fact that there are 15 franchises in the league where not a single player has 5 six-pointers. And the Patriots' receivers did not score as many touchdown catches as there were pick-sixes for last year's fifth-rounder Bland, who by the way took the place of fellow ball magnet Trevon Diggs on the edge.

There is a lot of competition among pass rushers for Defensive Player of the Year honors, but Bland could easily take the honor away from them with this historic performance.
