* Rebirth and the recent past *

At the beginning of 1998, the league was already looking for a new owner of the new Browns, and a year later they managed to find one of Modell's friends, bank manager Al Lerner. From 1996 to 1998, several franchises tried to move to Cleveland, to fill the football void created in the city prematurely, but the city did not let anyone in. The franchise is still in the hands of the Lerner family, and since Al's death in 2002, his son Randy has run the club. The new management was imported from San Francisco, the president, the general manager and the head coach also came from the Niners, the latter was Chris Palmer, who, however, did not live up to the high expectations placed on him. The team went 2-14 in 1999 and 3-13 in 2000, and it cost the head coach his job. New coach Butch Davis improved the team somewhat. In 2001, the team had a 7-9 record, and in 2002, the franchise's first season with a positive record followed. The first pick of the 1999 draft, Tim Couch, started the season as QB, but he continued his poor play until then, and then got injured, so the perennial starter Kelly Holcomb came to help the Browns instead. Couch never really came back. Holcomb led the team to the playoffs, where the opponent was the eternal rival Pittsburgh. The match brought great excitement and great play, but luck favored the home team, so the Davis crew suffered a 36-33 defeat.

After the season, the company changed quite a bit, coach Davis replaced the veterans with younger ones. This modification did not work, the encouraging 3-3 start was followed by a very weak, unbalanced continuation, and the score was only 5-11. Before 2004, Couch was fired and Holcomb was reclassified as a replacement, and the guard inaugurated a new starter in the person of the previously excellent Jeff Garcia. However, this did not bring much results, although the start was promising again, nine consecutive defeats sealed their fate, this time 4-12 was not enough for more than last place in the AFC North. During the season, Davis resigned and was temporarily replaced by offensive line coach Terry Robiskie. In 2005, they found a long-term solution for the bench in the person of Romeo Cren, the former Patriots assistant coach, who came with him from the Ravens to GM Phil Savage. At that time, one of the icons of today's football, receiver Braylon Edwards, was chosen by the guard in the draft. This Browns was already different from the previous two years, almost all of their games were close, they only suffered one big loss, unlike the previous ones, and they managed to win six times. A new manager also appeared on the scene, in the person of the local university classmate, Charlie Frye, who took over the baton from the outgoing Garcia.

2006 was the first real change in a positive direction. The team acquired Joe Jurevicius to strengthen the receiving line, the classy lineman LeCharles Bentley (it's true, he was constantly injured until he left this year), and one of Crennel's favorites, linebacker Willie McGinest. The excellent pass rusher Kamerion Wimbley and the starting linebacker D'Qwell Jackson were also selected in the draft. However, the changes were not immediate. The Browns started with three close losses, then beat the Raiders, and then everyone was hopeful because the team didn't perform badly. However, the Browns have not yet learned how to really win, they have lost matches one after another due to many small things. In addition, there was a lack of a real controller, Frye was not the real one, so they managed to close with only 4-12.

In 2007, the team was finally rebuilt. In addition to the star guard Eric Steinbach, the offensive line was strengthened with the excellent rookie Joe Thomas, and they formed one of the best OLs in the NFL in Cleveland. Brady Quinn, also a freshman, was expected to be the starting quarterback by everyone, but in the end Derek Anderson was given the baton and he did a great job. In addition, veteran running back Jamal Lewis also arrived. Despite this, we could not discover anything positive in the opening game against Pittsburgh, the Steelers won very easily (Frye started at that time, he was traded the next day). This was followed by a historic meeting: they came out victorious against Cincinnati in a 51-45 point cascade, and thus got used to success. With two weeks to go, their 9-5 record looked good for the Wild Card, as Pittsburgh was already a sure-fire division winner. However, already eliminated Cincinnati fought back: the team led by Palmer defeated the Browns 19-14, opening the way for Tennessee to catch up with Cleveland. After that, it was almost unnecessary to beat San Francisco on the road, the Titans entered the playoffs, but the 10-6 record was still excellent and gave a lot of confidence.

The team started 2008 with high hopes. In the draft, they didn't have a pick in any of the first three rounds, so they couldn't get a player who would fit in quickly, but apart from a few almost useless veterans, they didn't suffer any losses, but the management also made two large-scale trades: Detroit's excellent nose tackle, Shaun Rogers was acquired for Leigh Bodden and a third-round draft pick, while Green Bay defensive lineman Corey Williams cost a second-round pick (as a result of which they were not selected in the first three rounds). Apart from them, the Patriots' catcher, Donte Stallworth, who became a free agent, was an even more important confirmation. Added to them, the starving fans were finally waiting for a playoff. However, like so many times lately, they had to be disappointed: their favorites opened with three defeats and did not score more than ten points on any of the occasions, the Andersons did not even remind of the wonderful offensive unit of the previous year. Although they improved their record to 3-4 after seven matches, and there was a glimmer of hope, the Browns produced a disastrous 1-8 series from then on. It is typical that while the offense always produced more than twenty points when they achieved four successes, they were only able to score eleven or fewer units on ten occasions. During the year, the great talent Brady Quinn was deployed instead of Anderson, and after the tenth game week he was already the starting player, until the eleventh week, when he was out for the rest of the season due to an injury, and Anderson soon followed him on the injured list, so Ken Dorsey and Bruce Gradkowski was also given a role at QB in the second half of a terrible year for the Browns. Despite the disappointing record, Joe Thomas, Shaun Rogers and Ryan Pontbriand were also invited to the Pro Bowl as starters, in addition to them, Josh Cribbs, Phil Dawson, Eric Steinbach and D'Qwell Jackson participated in the event as replacements. Head coach Crennel had to leave at the end of the season, and he was succeeded by former New York Jets coach Eric Mangini, also Bill Belichick's student.

SUBJECTS: Good Afternoon, my darling Rosine

Good afternoon, my darling Rosine, I hope you enjoyed watching the Browns game as much as I did. I liked the Browns first touchdown when the quarterback threw a pass that bounced off the Arizona Cardinal's helmet and into the end zone where Amari Cooper caught the ball for a touchdown :)
CLEVELAND — Deshaun Watson threw two touchdown passes — one bouncing off an Arizona helmet — in his second start for Cleveland in five weeks due to a shoulder injury and the Browns held the Cardinals to just 58 yards in a 27-0-win Sunday.

It was Cleveland's first shutout since 2007.

Watson looked rusty and indecisive at times in his first full game since Sept. 24, when he sustained a strained rotator cuff in his throwing shoulder. He completed 19 of 30 passes for 219 yards — 139 to Amari Cooper.

But while Watson and the offense struggled to re-establish any rhythm following their time apart, the Browns (5-3) leaned on their top-ranked defense to stifle the Cardinals (1-8), who started rookie quarterback Clayton Tune.

Cleveland's defense set up both Watson TD passes with turnovers, and the Browns recorded seven sacks, with Dalvin Tomlinson getting Tune 2 1/2 times.

Watson connected with Cooper on an 11-yard scoring pass in the second quarter and hooked up with tight end David Njoku on a 5-yarder in the third.

Kareem Hunt had a 3-yard TD run and Dustin Hopkins kicked two field goals for Cleveland.

Arizona has lost six straight.

The Cardinals announced Saturday that Tune, a fifth-round pick from Houston, would start instead of activating Kyler Murray, who is close to making his return after suffering a knee injury last season.

Earlier this week, Arizona traded Joshua Dobbs, their starter in the first eight games while awaiting Murray's return.

Tune couldn't get anything going against the Browns, who pressured him on virtually every snap. He completed 11 of 20 passes for 58 yards with two interceptions.

Already short-handed due to injuries, the Cardinals were also without running back Emari Demercado and receiver Michael Wilson, who were both inactive.

The Cardinals had just 31 yards at halftime as their six first-half possessions went punt, punt, punt, interception, punt and punt. It didn't get much better after halftime.

The Browns led 13-0 at the break on the strength of two field goals by Hopkins and a fluky touchdown, which came after Denzel Ward picked off Tune.

Cleveland caught a huge break on the scoring play as Watson's throw deflected off the helmet of Cardinals defensive lineman Dante Stills, caromed high in the air and was grabbed by Cooper in the end zone.

A week ago, the Browns were victimized by a similar play when a late pass by backup QB P.J. Walker bounced off the helmet of a blitzing Seattle defender and was picked off, setting up the Seahawks' comeback win.

Murray's next chance to play is next week at home against Atlanta.

The Cardinals wanted to give Murray as much time as possible to get ready after months of rehab and inactivity. Once Murray is back on the roster and behind center, Arizona will have time to evaluate whether to stick with Murray, who signed a five-year, $230 million contract last season, as their franchise QB or go in another direction. The Browns play next week against the Baltimore Ravens in Baltimore. The Ravens beat the Browns earlier this year convincingly so I hope we have a better chance to win with our quarterback seemingly much healthier.

I hope you have a wonderful start to the new week, my love *kiss* Please take care as my kitty cats and I love you very much.*kiss* and *hugs*

Robert

We’ll get better from that, but he’s a warrior.”
Watson threw a 10-yard touchdown pass to Elijah Moore with 8:57 remaining. Then one of Lamar Jackson’s passes caromed high into the air and was picked off by Greg Newsome II, and he returned the interception 34 yards for a TD just 41 seconds later.
The Ravens stayed ahead 31-30 because Hopkins missed the extra point, but Cleveland got the ball back and drove 58 yards for the winning kick. The key play was a 17-yard pass to Amari Cooper on second-and-19 that got the drive back on track.
“[Watson] makes plays when they’re not there, makes unbelievable throws, leads this football team team,” Stefanski said. “There was never a doubt in his mind how this football game was going to turn out.”
Baltimore (7-3) had a four-game winning streak snapped, and the victory by Cleveland (6-3) tightened the race in the AFC North significantly.
Watson got off to a terrible start — his first pass of the game was picked off and returned for a touchdown — but he finished with 213 yards passing and 37 rushing, and his elusiveness was an issue for Baltimore’s vaunted pass rush.

Despite the high score, the defenses — ranked No. 1 and 2 in the league entering the game — had their moments. On the second play from scrimmage, Watson’s pass was batted into the air by Kyle Hamilton, and the ball came right down to the Baltimore safety, who ran 18 yards for a TD 40 seconds into the game.
Keaton Mitchell, an undrafted rookie who had no NFL carries before rushing for 138 yards on nine attempts the previous week against Seattle, scored on a 39-yard run on his first touch against the Browns. That gave Baltimore a 14-0 lead less than five minutes in.
It was 17-9 at halftime, and the Ravens scored on their first possession of the second. Odell Beckham Jr., who played for Cleveland from 2019 until a drama-filled exit in 2021, caught a pass over the middle from Jackson and outran everyone for a 40-yard touchdown.
“We’ve been here before and we knew how to fight back,” Myles Garrett said following the game. “Things like that define you, they help set a tone for a season and a team. There’s no game that we’re out of it. We have to continue to do what has gotten us here to this point in the season and continue to play the brand of football we know we can play.”
The Browns then went 75 yards on 17 plays and capped the drive — which lasted more than 10 minutes — with a 3-yard TD run by Kareem Hunt. Watson ran for a 2-point conversion that made it 24-17.
The Browns not only pulled within a half-game of the Ravens in the standings, they also avoided a series sweep after losing 28-3 to Baltimore earlier this season when Watson was hurt.
“We’re not perfect, none of these players are perfect, I know I ‘m not perfect but I trust these guys to come through when it really matters,” Stefanski said.
When all was said and done, Watson told reporters this was a big moment for him and the team.
“We have to take this energy we had from the second half and take it to tomorrow when we watch the tape, and correct the mistakes we had,” he said. “Then we put that bed and get ready for Pittsburgh newt week, it’s good to be back home where we play really, really well.”
INJURIES
It was a bruising game between division rivals. Cleveland was without both starting tackles from the outset. Browns CB Denzel Ward left with a neck injury, and S Juan Thornhill hurt a calf.
UP NEXT
Browns: Host Pittsburgh next Sunday.

Hi my love Rosine, well, my darling, if your goal was to please me with this wonderful page you created here at the Eklablog about the Cleveland Browns, I must say you certainly achieved your goal as I was very much pleased with this beautiful presentation of the history of the Cleveland Browns. My darling, reading what you wrote was a wonderful trip down memory lane with all the names of the Browns players that you wrote about. It was so joyful for me to remember all the names that I had not heard of for many years. I want to thank you, once again, for providing all this wonderful information for me so I could become familiar with things that I had forgotten about. I would be very happy to come here and provide recollections about some of the more memorable events that I remembered in past years about the Browns. Thank you very much for your invitation to come here :) My dear, I am very sorry about the very big picture I sent to you at boomer in messages. I saw later how the picture widened my message and I did not realize it was so big as the photo itself was not very big when I copied it from a newspaper article. I will be more careful in my future writings I send to you. I send you all my love with many kisses, my angel *kiss* Robert
