  • Joe Flacco beat PJ Walker, he starts if DTR can't take the game

Joe Flacco can play again in the NFL! Browns head coach Kevin Stefanski revealed to reporters that the veteran running back beat out PJ Walker, so he is currently the team's number two running back, and if Dorian Thompson-Robinson does not come out of the concussion protocol in time, then Flacco will start!

The former first-rounder, who won a championship with the Ravens and won the title of Super Bowl MVP, has not been considered a true first-choice quarterback since 2019, and in the last three years he has only 292 pass attempts for 2,000+ yards, 14 TDs and six interceptions as a starter. However, seeing PJ Walker's play (he was 6 of 13 for 56 yards against the Broncos, and he passed for 674 yards, one TD and five INTs on the season with 48.6 percent accuracy) makes it clear why the Browns are trusting Flacco. against the Rams.

  • The Broncos march on, the Patriots "won" the tank battle, the Rams easily won

The Broncos won their fifth game in a row and the playoffs are not at all unthinkable! The Patriots-Giants game turned into a real tank battle, which the Giants won on the scoreboard, but in fact the Patriots management could have been happier because of the better draft note. The Rams easily beat the Cardinals, and the Titans remained undefeated at home against the 1/1 Panthers in a not-so-spectacular meeting. Cleveland Browns @ Denver Broncos 12-29 The Broncos are in playoff form! Of course, Dorian Thompson-Robinson's - which I think was unnecessarily harsh - expression was needed for the confident victory, but even with that, Denver was the better team and, overall, they fully deserved to win. Denver started the game strong, opening with a very nice 80-yard TD drive, then recovering from a Russell Wilson fumble with another 80-yard TD drive. After that, however, science stopped and it was not possible to score another six-pointer until the fourth quarter, moreover, only after a Cleveland fumble, starting from the opponent's 20-yard line. Wilson managed just 134 passing yards and one TD through the air against one of the league's best defenses, which, however we want to make it look, still isn't great. On the other hand, Sean Payton's gameplan was very well thought out, the quarterback, supplemented with his still existing athleticism, put together a great running game, which more or less managed to progress continuously. Samaje Perine, in particular, played big (55 yards and a TD on a 7.9-yard average), but Wilson also had 34 yards and a TD on the ground, including a 19-yard scamper.

What is particularly praiseworthy is how well the offensive line worked and how well Wilson felt in the pocket. The one swallowed sack is very friendly (also only from a blitz), but he didn't have to suffer much from a hit either. If they manage to maintain this unremarkable, but mostly flawless and stable game, then you can really imagine a PO participation - especially with Vance Joseph pulling the defense together quite nicely. Obviously, the Browns aren't the best with Dorian Thompson-Robinson and PJ Walker, but 269 yards and three fumbles aren't bad, as are four sacks and plenty of QB hits (Nik Bonitto had a big day). The defense of the run game was already a bit sloppy, completely unnecessary fouls could be used, but overall it was very good. The Browns could rely mostly on their defense, but this time Myles Garrett's wasn't as dominant as expected. Sean Payton outcoached Jim Schwartz in many ways, so the offense was supposed to handle it. It still went as it was with DTR (he felt the pocket quite well, so he was never sacked and he was also effective on the ground), but PJ Walker was already too big of a disadvantage. He read and got rid of the ball slowly (he was tackled four times), he wasn't dangerous on the ground either, he was simply not enough. Hopefully, Thompson-Robinson will return soon, because without him, even with a 7-4 record, the playoffs will be a mess going forward. (running)

New England Patriots @ New York Giants 7 – 10

The Patriots have been given their toughest assignment of the year. You had to get him out of the Giants somehow. It was an uphill battle and required all creativity, but in the end we succeeded. However, the Giants did not give up easily, they lost the ball in the very first drive due to a handoff by a bad trick player. But the Patriots didn't give up, they corrected the Giants' mistake with a quick 3&out. However, the home team responded with another 3&out, and so it went until the Pats were satisfied with this standing war and resorted to their secret weapon: turnovers. Mac Jones threw a nasty interception twice to give the Giants a big chance. The first trouble was averted by the home attackers (3&out), but they couldn't manage the second one. DeVito found Isaiah Hodgins for a 12-yard TD pass.

7-0 was a pretty confident lead against the Pats offense, but Belichick didn't want to leave it to chance, replaced Mac Jones at halftime and brought in Bailey Zappe. This trade surprised the Giants defense so much that they forgot how to defend against the run and screen passes. The Pats drove down the field on their first drive of the second half and Rhamondre Stevenson tied the score on a 7-yard run. This unexpected TD made things difficult for the guests, it was difficult to concede another TD to the opponent. However, Belichick sent a clear message to the opponent: on his own 40, he sent the attackers up for a 4&1 first, who set up for a trick play (Zappe went out as a catcher). But it was all just a show. They didn't even wait for the offensive clock to run down, but asked for time and punted. The home team didn't get the message, they quickly kicked the toy back, so a stronger signal was needed. For another ball sale. Now Zappe delivered the message, and this time the opponent understood its content. It was only a field goal, but it was enough to give the Giants the lead again.

From there, the Pats only had to survive the remaining 8 minutes without scoring, but the Giants didn't give that 1/2 pick easily either. Three and a half minutes before the end, they managed to kick a weak punt from their own half, so the Pats could start the last drive from half court. The Giants tried one last pass to the Patriots, and they just let them get to the 17-yard line. From there, an easy 35-yard field goal should have been kicked, which would have sent the game into overtime. But Belichick has one last trump card left: Chad Ryland. The fourth-round rookie kicker has performed pretty poorly all season, and missed this easy field goal badly.

And with this final game, this year's biggest challenge was met, and even the fans were spared another 10 minutes of suffering. Everyone did well. (jarred) Los Angeles Rams @ Arizona Cardinals 37-14 Both teams went all the way from their opening drives and Tyler Higbee scored for the visitors, while Kyler Murray scored a TD for the hosts. Many expected an offensive battle in Arizona, but the Cardinals' offensive line disappeared into the Arizona desert after the successful two-pointer and did not appear until garbage time. On the other hand, Matthew Stafford and the Rams offensive line split. Although there was a punt after the touchdown, during their seven offensive series that followed, he ended up scoring five points in addition to one turnover, while on one occasion only an unsuccessful field goal saved the Cardinals. For the Rams, Kyren Williams had a career day, rushing for over 200 scrimmage yards and two TDs. At one point in the second half, he had more yards alone than the entire Cardinals offensive line.

The key duel of the match was between the Rams' offensive line and the Cardinals' defensive line, which was completely dominated by the guests. There was no pressure on Stafford, completing 25 of 33 passes for 229 yards and four touchdowns. On the ground, in addition to Williams, Royce Freeman also gained 77 yards, while Los Angeles gained 228 yards. Cooper Kupp and Puka Natua had a quiet day this time, but neither was really needed with Williams shining. Moving to the other side, the battle of the walls was also dominated by the Los Angeles defense. Aaron Donald was constantly doubled or tripled, so others like Kobie Turner, who had two sacks, had a good day. Kyler Murray had a couple of good shots this time and took care of the ball, the wall couldn't protect him. And with the lack of a running game, the Cardinals' offensive series had no rhythm, so Greg Dortch's one-handed TD catch at the end of the game was only cosmetic. The Rams thus won a confident victory and can continue chasing one of the PO spots, while Arizona took another step towards the top three pick.

Carolina Panthers @ Tennessee Titans 10-17

Two top 4 managers of the 2023 draft faced each other.

Unfortunately, the meeting was grayed out even in the not-so-beatable early lineup. Both defenses are in the worst five in the league (based on EPA), yet neither offensive line has been able to make much progress against them. Because of this, just over 500 yards were gained in the meeting and 13 of 21 drives ended with punts. Even if the Titans did not have the upper hand, they actually led throughout the match from the second attack and they really didn't have to worry for a minute about the victory. During the second drive, Levis made a good pass to the 10-yard area, which, in addition to Henry's runs - which included a successful 4&1 attempt - finally led the home team to the red zone, where King Henry scored the first points of the match. The Panthers' progress was terribly slow, but at least they were able to get within field goal distance here. The 7-3 result was not even dangerous considering the picture of the game, but then Bryce Young was forced into a scramble, and when he was about to throw, Arden Key caught up to him and knocked the ball out of his hand.

The gift received in the red zone was once again converted into points by the Titans' superstar runner, when the game was almost over here.

After a few more 3-and-outs and a field position battle before the break, Nick Folk's 53-yard field goal changed the score to 17-3 at halftime. The Panthers returned from the break to score their only touchdown on a successful 4th down attempt by Chuba Hubbard.

However, this was the final result of the meeting. Seven more punts followed that score and a game-ending turnover on downs when the Panthers had to go for it. None of the rookie managers played really well. Both of their scoreboards remained empty, neither a touchdown pass nor an interception was scored, so in the end it can be said that the defensive possession won the game for the Titans. However, none of them were still in an easy situation. Hard-to-break catchers and constant pressure. Young was rushed on nearly half of his passing plays. First of all, the inside of the wall collapsed on him, from where Denico Autry appeared with two sacks and Jeffery Simmons with one. The wall in front of Levis was not good either, on the right side Dillon Radunz suffered seriously with Brian Burns.

Apart from the single turnover, the meeting was decided by the fact that, despite the weak walls, Levis had the help of a Henry & Hopkins duo. Neither manager really played well. There was more rhythm to be found in the replay of the Lions half time show on Thanksgiving than in these offensive lines. The Panthers are creeping towards 2/1 (the 1/1 won't be theirs), while the Titans also gave the impression of a terribly weak team who were just better than the worst unit in the league. An interesting thing about the Titans is that this year they won all their matches at home, but they lost all of them away from home. (alatriste)

Battered Browns Left Licking Their Wounds After Broncos' Stampede ...

How much adversity can one team handle?

    No, seriously.

What the Cleveland Browns have been through in 2023 is bordering on insane - and the fact they are in the thick of a playoff race is a remarkable testament to their perseverance.

Dorian Thompson-Robinson, Amari Cooper and Myles Garrett are the latest victims to a slew of injuries in Sunday's 29-12 loss to the Denver Broncos.

Thompson-Robinson took a vicious hit that left him concussed, leaving the Browns with only one healthy/active quarterback on the roster Sunday.

Frankly, I liked a lot of what I saw from the Browns fifth round pick running the offense today. DTR clearly needs time to develop into an every-day, reliable NFL quarterback. But in three straight starts, I think he's looked pretty good. His stats don't really tell the story (again) on Sunday, with four more dropped passes. But I like the overall potential, especially with his toughness and his agility.

Myles Garrett is a warrior. He is one of the favorites to win NFL Defensive Player of the Year this year, sure. But while he is physically as talented as anyone in the game, his willingness to keep fighting through obvious pain is easily as admirable. At times it looked like Garrett was playing Sunday afternoon without a left arm. His arm hung immobile from his shoulder several times when the camera cut to him going back to the sideline and he wasn't quite his normal self when trying to rush Russel Wilson.

Garrett said postgame he felt something pop in his left shoulder and he was in a sling leaving the stadium. Cleveland.com's Mary Kay Cabot tweeted that he couldn't seem to lift his shoulder.
He took a brutal shot to the ribs on a bad high throw from P.J. Walker. Thankfully the X-Rays on his ribs were negative. Cooper has been Cleveland's far-and-away most productive target in the passing game this year and losing him would be a terrible blow.In the meantime, this team is already without starting quarterback Deshaun Watson, starting tailback Nick Chubb, starting offensive tackles Jack Conklin and Jedrick Wills, starting linebacker Anthony Walker, starting All-Pro cornerback Denzel Ward and starting safety defensive back Rodney McLeod.

Kevin Stefanski never makes an excuse and routinely says injuries are part of the game. They have to find a way to win without some of these guys - other teams are banged up too.

But admittedly, a franchise that has been long overdo for some good fortune must feel like its opportunity at chasing a Super Bowl championship is getting slimmer while the Injured List turns into a full-page document.
And that'll do it from Denver. The Broncos have now won FIVE games in a row to get over .500 for the first time this season. As for the Browns, they have their three-game winning streak snapped and drop to 7-4.

Broncos vs. Browns score, takeaways: Denver extends winning streak to five games with win over Cleveland
Denver is over .500 for the first time this season
The Broncos are above .500 for the first time this season and have ripped off five straight victories after taking down the Browns at Mile High, 29-12. This loss also snapped a three-gaming winning streak by the Browns and drops them to 7-4 on the year.

This was a pivotal matchup for the overall playoff picture in the AFC and was largely a game of runs between these two postseason hopefuls. The Broncos jumped out to a 14-0 lead early in the first half largely thanks to some sound running by Russell Wilson, who totaled 34 yards and a touchdown on the ground. Then, the Browns offense -- led by rookie Dorian Thompson-Robinson -- started to find its rhythm and went on a 12-0 run sandwiched around halftime.

The first two scoring drives in the opening half saw Cleveland having to settle for field goals, but head coach Kevin Stefanski left his offense on the field midway through the third quarter on a fourth-and-goal situation from the 2-yard line. The unit rewarded him with a touchdown pass by Thompson-Robinson (his first career TD pass) to tight end Harrison Bryant. That score brought the Browns within two of the Broncos, but that's as close as they'd come to tying or taking the lead as their two-point attempt following the score failed and the Broncos proceeded to score 15 unanswered points en route to the win.

Thompson-Robinson was ruled out midway through the second half of this game after suffering a concussion on a hit from Baron Browning, which was called for unnecessary roughness. He finished 14 of 29 for 134 yards and a touchdown before departing. P.J. Walker came in under duress and completed six of his 13 passes for 56 yards. Meanwhile, Wilson finished 13 of 22 passing for 134 yards and a touchdown.

For more on how this game unfolded, check out our main takeaways below.

    Why the Broncos won

It sounds cliche, but this was a hard-nosed win for Denver. They established the run early in this contest as both Russell Wilson and Samaje Perine logged rushing scores in the first half. At the break, Denver was averaging over five yards per carry and had an overall more physical demeanor to their offense. While they were churning out yards on that side of the ball via the ground game, the defense was creating turnovers. In all, they unit recovered three fumbles on the day and really started to tee off in the second half with P.J. Walker under center. They defense piled up four sacks, including a late safety that put the game on ice.

There wasn't a lot of style points -- outside of Wilson's touchdown throw in the second half (more on that below) -- but the Broncos remain as hot as any team in the NFL at the moment.

    why the Browns lost

The game plan went haywire after Thompson-Robinson was ruled out of this game due to a concussion. At the time he departed, Cleveland was down by just five points, but it proceeded to let the Broncos score 12 unanswered points with P.J. Walker under center. That said, the Browns did struggle early on in this game. They were 0-2 in the red zone in the first half and settled for field goals, while the Broncos were able to cash in for touchdowns on both of their red zone trips over the first two quarters. They also didn't play particularly strong complementary football as each side of the ball ran hot and cold at different points. Most notably, the Browns offense was finally able to punch in a touchdown after keeping the offense on the field on fourth down. That cut the Denver lead to just two points, but the defense then let Wilson and company drive 70 yards down the field in just over five minutes to kick a field goal and go up by five.

Turnovers were a key issue throughout this game for the Browns as well, fumbling the ball three times. Two of those turnovers resulted in 10 points for Denver.

    Turning point

The Broncos were able to blow the game open after a critical turnover by the Browns. In the aftermath of losing Thompson-Robinson due to injury, Cleveland elected to run a reverse with Pierre Strong Jr. and Elijah Moore. The exchange between the two was fumbled, the ball hit the ground and D.J. Jones was able to recover to give Denver possession at the Cleveland 20 yard line. The Broncos then increased their lead from five points to 12 thanks to a touchdown drive less than 90 seconds after the turnover. At that point, the Browns did not come close to gaining on Denver and mounting a comeback.

    Play of the game

You could make an argument that Russell Wilson made more impact plays with his legs in this game rather than his arm, but the quarterback's eight-yard passing touchdown to Adam Trautman was vintage Wilson. On a third-and-goal play, Wilson danced around the pocket before firing a dart to the front right corner of the end zone to Trautman, who kept both feet in bounds for the score. That touchdown -- which was overturned on a challenge by Sean Payton -- was Wilson's lone passing score of the game, but it sure was one for the highlight reel.

    What's next

From here, the Broncos will embark on a three-game road trip, starting in Houston in Week 13 where they'll take on C.J. Stroud and the Texans. As for the Browns, they'll be in L.A. where they take on the Rams.

And that'll do it from Denver. The Broncos have now won FIVE games in a row to get over .500 for the first time this season. As for the Browns, they have their three-game winning streak snapped and drop to 7-4.
